The Story of Irvington Covenant Church begins with about a dozen people meeting in the home of our founder Henry Greenidge in 1988. A skilled preacher and gifted musician, he had a vision of a church that would be a welcoming environment where any and everyone would feel at home. A true “Grace Place.”
As Martin Luther King Jr. once said in the 1960’s, eleven o’clock on Sunday Morning is the most segregated hour in all of America; the statement rang true in Northeast Portland. Irvington Covenant Church led the way in founding the first multiethnic church in Portland.
Over the years the people have changed but the vision still remains. Irvington strives to be a place where all people from all backgrounds can come together and experience the love of God.
